[EP35] Confessions Of A Visionary Creative Seeker | Duncan Littlefield

[EP35] Confessions Of A Visionary Creative Seeker | Duncan Littlefield

In this episode, I’m joined by Duncan Littlefield. Duncan and I connected about 1 year ago and hit it off right away. I remember resonating with the story he told about his days as a professional golfer, the “identity” he had attached to and how he reinvented himself.

He has since gone on to become a visionary storyteller that has founded numerous companies. I’m constantly amazed how he “balances” all of his ventures while leveling up his leadership skills along the way to enroll “integrators” to make his visions come to life.

We also discussed one of his projects called “Who Stories” where he supports inspiring individuals to tell their authentic story … because “you are enough!”.

Episode Quotes

“Everything we have going on is a lot. But, it’s all self-inflicted. I created the deep end, I filled it up with water and I was the one that chose to dive from the high dive without any swimming lessons” – Duncan Littlefield

“I actually got pulled over when driving home from my last golf tournament because I was speeding.  I was so in my head about where I was, where I was going, what I was doing.  I’ll never forget the conversation I had with the police officer.  I realized in that moment, I am no longer a professional golfer, and that’s ok.” – Duncan Littlefield

“I went to school truly to get by so I could play golf. I found out I was dyslexic in high school.  So, school was never my jam.” – Duncan Littlefield

“We create kick ass videos, sure, but we create more trust.  And, that’s our focus.” – Duncan Littlefield

“It was probably 3 years ago I first heard the term – visionary and integrator – and I actually said to my wife…I think I’m a visionary. My first thought was to default to my humble Saskatchewan roots and say – I’m not a visionary, that sounds conceited and like…I don’t want to do the work.” – Trevor Turnbull

“It was such a funny moment where I was like – well crap – I’ve been the CEO, COO, CTO, CFO, CMO. I was picking these C-Level roles and I shouldn’t be in them. I spun myself into a loop where I was changing processes all the time. That’s when the company changed” – Duncan Littlefield

“I thought that if I give up all the roles in my business that I’d be giving up control and I won’t be leading anything. It almost felt like another death.  Like I was losing a piece of my baby. It was such a backwards way of thinking when trying to grow a business.” – Trevor Turnbull

“There’s times when I have a vision and when I try to explain it to my team I get a deer in headlights look. I can almost see it above me like a hologram. I am also grounded enough to not be attached to the exact plan because things are going to happen and change.” – Trevor Turnbull

“I’ve always said that I am the guy that runs from 40-60% of the race or the puzzle.  Then I get really bored and say – someone else take this and run with it” – Duncan Littlefield

“One of my favorite quotes is – just because you can carry the weight doesn’t mean that it’s not heavy.” – Duncan Littlefield

“How do you do things differently? Why should they listen to you? What connects you to that person on a personal level that makes them trust you?” – Trevor Turnbull

“The reality is that your story is enough. So, how do you build trust? You tell stories, you create a connection and you earn trust.” – Duncan Littlefield

“You are the greatest version of yourself right now. Of course, you are aspiring to improve and elevate and grow. But you are also there right now. You are a great version of yourself now then you were 12 seconds ago. That’s the ultimate form of trust building.  Be comfortable in your skin right now.” – Trevor Turnbull

“In the last couple of weeks, I’ve had this feeling deep inside that I want to create a short film or documentary. I’ve been labeled over the years as a hockey player or sales guy or business builder.  I’ve never had the title of a – creative – but I really am and I want to lean into it” – Trevor Turnbull
